You may ask yourself, where in the world have I been to just not blog for oh, over a month? And you may ask yourself, hey where’s the remote control? And when I say you, I mean the 3 people who are possibly still checking this blog and by may I mean “may not” … but really, why get into details? Exactly my point. I was going to write this whole epic saga about my absence, but I really have so much to catch up on and so many other things just waiting for my special treatment, I decided to just provide you with the recap version. Because I know you’ve missed me.
A few days before Labor Day I was out of town while my daughter was on a cruise to the Bahamas (I know!), there was some concern if the trip would take place due to a few tropical storms/hurricanes forming. Luckily everything went well, and she had a great time. While she was gone, Tropical Storm/Depression Ernesto decided to stay mostly out of her way, and turned northward instead. Sending rain up the East coast, causing a lot of rain while I was at the:
and caused things to be:
Unfortunately while the rain flooded the courts in Queens, back home it was also flooding my apartment, which resulted in a lot of this:
and ultimately some of this:
and finally forced me to do this:
So one week I’m just enjoying the last days of summer … and the next I’m moving my entire apartment two floors up. Which was much more of a pain in the ass than I’m making it sound here. Unfortunately my leasing company was little help … and … well … stairs. I’m finally settled in for the most part and things are back to normal, but I will say . Besides all of that we have started school here and 4th grade is already proving to be an adventure. Add that to a hectic slate of projects, work requests and just … life and it’s been a bit difficult to get back into the swing of things. I should also mention I’ve been conquering the internets in even more ways here and here, not to mention all my other usual rounds.
So … what have you been up to?

Ew. So that explains everything. Well, I’m glad you’re back, anyway. And sorry for your loss. Well, you know what I mean.
Now, to serious stuff. Three questions :
1) Did you actually see any tennis ?
2) You will say what ? (As in “I’m finally settled in for the most part and things are back to normal, but I will say.”)
3) Dancing With The Stars ? Seriously ?
PS Coordinates. Just read it. Can’t believe I never read it before. Beautiful. Just beautiful.
Hello there, thanks for your condolences.
1) Not really, they came out to warm up, but that was about it. Strangely it was still fun.
2) Uh… who knows? I think I was going to say something like “I will say that this whole ordeal affected me emotionally more than I care to admit.” Apparently so much so that I blackout in the middle of sentences.
3) Hells to the yes, nephew!
And … thanks for the comments, I’m glad you enjoyed it. Reminds me that I need to get back into the habit there too.
So … Singapore, eh? Wow.
So, is the new apartment the same size and price? And did this only happen in your apartment?
Yo Neil … It’s the same size (roughly) and price — it’s just… backwards in its layout. So that took some getting used to. It’s weird to spend all that effort moving and getting nothing out of it — except a mold-free place. Supposedly there were a few other units affected by water damage, but none in my building and I don’t think they had the mold problem. Are you going to hire a lawyer for me?
I don’t know much about these things, but I think you should be reinbursed for something.
Yeah, you’d think, wouldn’t you? However, like John Paul Jones, I’ve not yet begun to fight. Or bitch. Scary thought, I know.
[...] I’m not sure what is worse … having your car stolen or the resulting insanity. On Thursday, the day after I returned from being out of town to find my car had been stolen from the parking garage where I’d left it … the sky opened up, tornadoes threatened and the roads nearby flooded out in many places. I suppose maybe this is all a hint that I should just give up driving altogether. Still, I was eager to find out what exactly was going to happen with my car … and the first step to that would be locating it. When I filed the report, I very soon after found out that the car had already been recovered in Southeast DC, where it was found abandoned with a punched ignition and gutted steering column. From there the details begin to blur… I spoke several times with a few officers of the 6th District who were very helpful, but since the rain just kept pouring down and since they weren’t able to do anything to/with the car without the proper paperwork, my poor victimized car ended up sitting in the lot all day … windows down. But then again, I guess I’m an old hand at water damage. [...]
