Life seems too sweet that we decide
It’s in the bag to get unified.
It’s delightful, it’s delicious, it’s de-lovely.
I’ve written elsewhere and as well as in these pages many times about the experience of being in love and maintaining a relationship with the man who has become the best friend I could ever hope to have. It has been a wild, wonderful, fragile, intense and tenacious experience; one that has changed us both for so much the better. Over Thanksgiving, I received a momentous surprise … a question, a promise, a gift, a life — all rolled into one. Anything that I write here won’t really adequately describe what I feel about this … and about the wonderful, smart, funny, sweet man I’m about to gladly spend the rest of my life with. I will just say that we are happy, excited and hopeful. Life hasn’t been without its own challenges and difficult times, especially lately. I think it means that much more in that context to have someone who knows how scary, hard and unpredictable life can be, to say, let’s do it together. I know we can and will … and so it pleases me to no end to be able to use this occasion to tell the world we’re in love.
We’re still figuring out all the plans and details, but I’m sure if you watch this space you’ll probably find out more than you ever wanted to know. Until then … YAY!
I’m not sure what is worse … having your car stolen or the resulting insanity. On Thursday, the day after I returned from being out of town to find my car had been stolen from the parking garage where I’d left it … the sky opened up, tornadoes threatened and the roads nearby flooded out in many places. I suppose maybe this is all a hint that I should just give up driving altogether. Still, I was eager to find out what exactly was going to happen with my car … and the first step to that would be locating it. When I filed the report, I very soon after found out that the car had already been recovered in Southeast DC, where it was found abandoned with a punched ignition and gutted steering column. From there the details begin to blur… I spoke several times with a few officers of the 6th District who were very helpful, but since the rain just kept pouring down and since they weren’t able to do anything to/with the car without the proper paperwork, my poor victimized car ended up sitting in the lot all day … windows down. But then again, I guess I’m an old hand at water damage.
Anyway, after a few rounds of calls, I realize that no one is exactly sure where the car is … because apparently after a few days the cars get moved to a holding lot. So at the “advice” of my insurance company and the police department, I paid a visit to the 6th district headquarters on Friday. Now, I’ve done a lot of weird things, but none of them ever landed me at the 6th District headquarters. After finally finding the building, I thought I’d be in and out after signing a few papers to release my car into the custody of the insurance company’s tow contractor. Oh silly me …
