Today I’m reminded that I’m fortunate to have so many things: my health, family, friends, life. I’m thankful to be fortunate enough to have a Thanksgiving celebration to attend and that I’m able to enjoy it. Although I’m far from my family for this holiday, I’m glad (and thankful) to know that they’re able to gather and carry on the tradition and know I’m there at least in spirit. I’m grateful to be able to take comfort in many close and special friends who are always willing to lend an ear, support and a laugh when I need it. I’m thankful to have a wonderful, smart, healthy daughter who’s brought me much happiness and pride. I’m also grateful to my husband who has been a great partner and source of inspiration, love and laughter in both the good times and the not so good. I’m thankful for the significant as well as the less critical things, the serious and the sublime. When I think about giving thanks, I imagine my words would spill out much more eloquently than they do, but maybe the act of gratitude is beyond measure of prose and its beauty is merely in existing as a simple ritual we come together to share on the same day each year.
