Family. Karaoke. Party.

I’d love to blog more on this but some Stevie Wonder is calling… TGIF everyone.

Today I’m reminded that I’m fortunate to have so many things: my health, family, friends, life. I’m thankful to be fortunate enough to have a Thanksgiving celebration to attend and that I’m able to enjoy it. Although I’m far from my family for this holiday, I’m glad (and thankful) to know that they’re able to gather and carry on the tradition and know I’m there at least in spirit. I’m grateful to be able to take comfort in many close and special friends who are always willing to lend an ear, support and a laugh when I need it. I’m thankful to have a wonderful, smart, healthy daughter who’s brought me much happiness and pride. I’m also grateful to my husband who has been a great partner and source of inspiration, love and laughter in both the good times and the not so good. I’m thankful for the significant as well as the less critical things, the serious and the sublime. When I think about giving thanks, I imagine my words would spill out much more eloquently than they do, but maybe the act of gratitude is beyond measure of prose and its beauty is merely in existing as a simple ritual we come together to share on the same day each year.

Out on a Limb

One of our favorite things about this apartment is that we have a little balcony to enjoy. Never mind that the view is mostly the parking lot of the train station next door — for the most part we don’t really notice this, unless we are actually engaging in some good old fashioned people watching. Far more interesting than commuters, though, are the birds who flock to the small row of trees a few feet away. I’m not sure if the most fascinating thing is watching them or listening to them as they chirp themselves into a frenzy, flutter away and then come back a few minutes later to start all over. The fact is, they’re downright loud, but we don’t really mind — maybe we can relate. Tonight I remembered that I took some video of them a few weeks ago, so you can decide for yourself:
